SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The spring season is fast approaching for the Santa Clara University men's golf team. The Broncos finished the fall season ranked No. 89 by GolfStat. Their aim is to move into the national top-60 and qualify for NCAA tournament play.

All six upcoming events on the 2011 schedule lead up to the WCC Championships April 18-19 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif. Behind the performance of 'WCC Player of the Year' Scott Travers (pictured) and All-WCC honorees Cory Mehl and Rick Lamb, the Broncos were top-tier finishers at the league championships a year ago.

"The idea this spring is to be in a position where we don't have to win (the WCC Championships) to get into regionals," said sixth year men's head golf coach Rob Miller. "This (ranking) is the highest going into a spring season since we went to the NCAA's in 2006. The good news is we can play much better than we showed in the fall. All the guys believe we can move up."

The Broncos are playing 18 holes Monday, Wednesday and Friday at local courses which include La Rinconada Country Club, CordeValle Golf Club, Mayacama Golf Club, among others. They are also meeting with a sport psychologist once a week, training twice a week and getting additional individual instruction weekly.

The team's official season-opener is Feb. 7-8 at the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational in Newport Beach.
