LAKESIDE, Calif. – Santa Clara University's Rick Lamb continued his outstanding play this spring, staying right around par, going 3-over for the tournament to finish in tie for 11th among a field of 100 players and 16 teams at the Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State.

It was the fifth time in SCU's last six tournaments that Lamb, a sophomore from Sarasota, Florida, has placed among the top 15.

"Rick has really picked up where he left off this fall; he's been our steadiest player," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller. "He is playing with a lot of confidence and doing so many things well. Rick has become so mentally tough, improving his demeanor on the course. Everyone talks about playing one stroke at a time, but he is doing that, playing under control. He is an excellent ball striker and his short game continues to get better. The biggest improvement for him has been mentally and that is a product of how hard he has been working."

The Broncos also benefited from the return of junior all-conference player Cory Mehl, who was sensational Thursday morning at 4-under par and 68. Mehl finished 32nd overall. However, after coming in third as a team following the opening-round, Santa Clara fell seven spots during rounds two and three and placed tenth.

"Most of the scores went up this afternoon," said Miller about the rainy playing conditions in Lakeside. "We found out over the past week we don't play too well in poor weather. Oregon and down here, apparently it is not our specialty. Hopefully we will find good weather in Scottsdale and at the WCC Championships."
