Men’s Golf Shoots Season-Low Round At The Goodwin

STANFORD, Calif. – Scoring a season-low 281 the Santa Clara men's golf team is tied for 12th place after the first round of The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford University on the par-70, 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course.

The field of 24 at the prestigious tournament includes 18 teams ranked in the top 100 and eight in the top 40 by Golfweek.com. No. 34 TCU snatched the lead after the opening 18 holes with a 16-under 264. No. 28 UAB (272) is second with No. 24 UNLV and No. 67 UC Davis tied for third.

Hayden Shieh led the Broncos with a 1-under 69 to tie for 26th while Gio Gandionco, who tied for 36th, topped the field with 16 par rounds to finish at even-par 70. Tyler Kertson and Carlos Briones each shot 1-over 71 and are tied for 51st in the 131-player field.

Competing as an individual Drew Miller scored a 1-under 69 to tie teammate Shieh and eight other golfers for 26th five strokes behind UNLV's John Oda, who fired a 6-under 64 and leads the field by one shot over six players.

The Broncos' first round score was one better than the previous season-best set on Oct. 20 in the first round of the Bill Cullum Invitational.

Teams will tee off from holes one and 10 in two waves starting at 7:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. to begin second round play Friday. Live scoring is available at www.golfstatresults.com.
