SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University generated a number of scoring opportunities which included 11 shots and played even with No. 3 Creighton University Friday night deep into the second half before the Bluejays came up with the decisive goal in the 68^th minute.

Santa Clara (1-3-0) has now opened the season with Cal, Duke, N.C. State and Creighton. True freshman forward Ryan Masch and junior starter Carlos Montes fired off shots from the top of the box in the second half that just missed their mark.

"We played a good team tonight. Creighton is a good team, they are solid and well organized," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast. "They don't allow you to get a lot of chances and we created some good chances tonight – man did we create some good chances. I think, right now, its taking those chances and making one more pass that makes it easier, or finishing the chances we do get so we can continue to believe and build on our attack."

Creighton (3-0-1) – who advanced to the NCAA College Cup Final Four last season – received the game-winner from Christian Blandon, courtesy of Vincent Keller and Brent Kallman's assist. The Bluejays return eight starters from last year's Final Four team and entered the week No. 3 in the NSCAA Top 25.

"We are close, and when you go toe-to-toe with a team like this you can see where you are at," added Rast. "We are at a tipping point and if we can just get that ball rolling and over the hill it will roll fast for us, I believe that."

Santa Clara will turn its attention to Sunday night's game with San Jose State. Start time is set for 7 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium. Kids under 12, wearing a youth soccer jersey, will be admitted FREE with a paying adult.

SCU NOTES: The Broncos added freshman defender Matt Escobar (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) to the roster this week. Escobar had originally committed to play at the University of Portland.
