SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After its lone away match of the 2013 spring season, the Santa Clara men's soccer team will return to Buck Shaw Stadium to battle UC Santa Barbara on Sat., April 20 at 1 p.m.

At San Jose State
Last Friday, April 12, the Broncos made the short trip to battle cross-town rival San Jose State in their first spring match of the season.

Santa Clara and San Jose State battled to a 1-1 draw. The Broncos' goal came on a strike from Jared Hegardt.

"For much of the San Jose State match we held the tempo, but at the same time we need to understand that it is one thing to play well and another to get results," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast.

Sat., April 20 vs. UCSB
Rast, who is using the spring as a time for development, believes the tilt with UCSB is time to build on the positives from last week's game. The coaching staff is using the spring game to see what abilities the team possesses while also trying to implement the team's philosophy. One area of emphasis is on holding possession.

"The quality of the match is going to be outstanding. We want to build on some things that happened last week in our San Jose State match," said Rast. "The game this weekend with Santa Barbara is going to be a great matchup for us. They are a team that has had good success over the last 10 years and traditionally one of the teams you have to contend with for a playoff spot."
