SANTA CLARA, Calif. - This Saturday the Santa Clara men's tennis team hosts UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis to open the 2010 dual season. The double header begins as the Broncos take on UCSC at 9:30 a.m. followed by UC Davis at 12:30 p.m. The Banana Slugs are the reigning NCAA Division III National Champions and the Aggies are consistently a tough match up.
Last season, the Broncos opened up dual match play hosting UCSC on Jan. 31 after postponing the originally scheduled Jan. 24 match due to rain. SCU opened the season up with a strong win against the Slugs with a 6-1 victory. Jay Wong, Kyle Dandan, Tommy Hicks, Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong, and Hugo Taricido Loureiro all grabbed singles victories for the Broncos.
In Santa Clara's last meeting with UC Davis on Feb. 28, SCU was able to secure a 5-2 win with strong singles wins from Wong, Dandan, Hirakawa-Wong, and Hicks. Doubles pairs of Wong/Hirakawa-Wong and Hicks/Dandan also grabbed points for the Broncos.
First serve is set for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Degheri Tennis Center. The Broncos will first take on UC Santa Cruz, followed by UC Davis at 12:30.
