Women's Golf in Fifth Place at Colby Invitational

CARMEL, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team is currently tied for fifth place after the first of two days of hosting the Colby Invitational on the East Course (par-71, 5,801 yards) at Rancho Canada Golf Club in Carmel.

The Broncos played to a team round of 307, 23-over par and just seven strokes off the lead. Oregon holds the team lead following its 16-over par performance of 300. Idaho is in second, just four strokes back, followed by Eastern Washington and Gonzaga, who are both at 306. Santa Clara is tied with Boise State in the 14-team field.

Individually, the Broncos are led by Courtney Dimpel-Composti, who finished her round with a three-over par 74, good for a tie for sixth place. Candice Palmer is tied for 15th after carding a 76, and teammate Meggie Fagundes is right behind her with a 77, tied for 22nd. Samantha Trask is in 42nd place, with a round of 80, and Paige Wilson rounds out the Bronco lineup with an 86, good for 66th place.

Ayumi Hori of Idaho leads the individual competition after scoring the only under-par round of the day. She fired a 70 and has a two-stroke lead over Oregon's Therese Wenslow.

Tuesday's second and final round will begin tomorrow morning on the West Course, a par-72, 5,937-yard track. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m.
