Women's Golf Adds Pleasanton Standout to Program

April 22, 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team announced the signing of 5-6 right-hander Jenny Nelson of Pleasanton to a national letter of intent, head coach Polly Schulze announced during the late signing period that began last Wednesday. She will join the Bronco program next fall.

"Jenny is a team player, someone who loves to be in a competitive environment and will bring great enthusiasm to our team," Schulze said. "She is excited about attending Santa Clara and becoming a business major. I think Jenny will excel at the collegiate level."

Nelson was a team captain of the Foothill High School squad that went undefeated in league play en route to the 2002 and '03 championships. A two-time first team All-East Bay Athletic League honoree, Nelson has been the league's co-champion the past two seasons. She carded a personal-best 74 to win the East Bay Alameda Junior competition.

The Broncos recently completed the 2004 season, placing third at the West Coast Conference Championship. Schulze was named the league's Coach of the Year after leading her squad into the top three of the league standings for the first time in five years, as well as guiding SCU past another program milestone, breaking 300 for a team round. The Broncos accomplished that feat twice in the final two weeks of the season, with the new mark set in the second round of WCCs (296).
