Women's Golf Has Good Day at Lady Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team continued its solid play during the spring season with a good showing on day one of the Lady Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State. The two-day event is being played at the 6,029 yard, par-72, The Auld Course in Chula Vista, Calif.

Polly Schulze's Broncos began the day by breaking the program record low round with their team score of 303. The score breaks the previous low round of 309 that was set during the final round of the Sacramento State Invitational earlier this season. The afternoon proved a little harder as SCU registered a 307 for a first day total of 610, which places them seventh out of 21 teams.

Meggie Fagundes led the Broncos with her rounds of 72 and 79, placing her in a tie for 12th place entering the final round on Tuesday. Freshman Samantha Trask posted rounds of 77 and 76 for a two round total of 9-over par, 153, placing her in a tie for 21st. Courtney Dimpel-Composti and Candice Palmer finished day one in a tie for 24th with their two round total of 154, as each shot rounds of 76 and 78 on Monday.

Nikki Mack rounded out the team scores with her day one total of 165. Her second round 80 moved her into a tie for 75th entering Monday's final round. Paige Wilson is competing as an individual in the tournament and posted scores of 91 and 80 on day one. She is currently tied for 92nd place.

The Broncos are only two shots behind Colorado in fifth place and 10 strokes behind fourth place Brigham Young. Tuesday's final round will begin Tuesday morning at the Auld Course.
