Women's Golf in 13th Place after Day One of Lady Vandal Invite

MOSCOW, Idaho - The Santa Clara University women's golf team play its first two roundsof the 2003-2004 season and finished in 13th place after day one of the Lady Vandal Invitational at the University of Idaho Golf Course in Moscow, Idaho.

As a team the Broncos fired rounds of 331 and 333 for a first day total of 664, nine shots ahead of Portland and 10 strokes better than Idaho State. Oregon is the leader after day one with a two round total of 609, followed by Cal State Northridge at 615 and the host, University of Idaho, at 624.

Meggie Fagundes led the Broncos with her two round total of 20-over par, 164, one stroke better than teammate Courtney Dimpel-Composti who finished at 165 after rounds of 83 and 82. Newcomer Samantha Trask fired rounds of 82 and 84 for a share of 64th place, while Candice Palmer and Nikke Mack are tied for 71st and 83rd, respectively, after their first day totals of 170 and 175.

Caitlyn McNary, who is playing as an individual in the tournament, fired rounds of 91 and 64 on day one.

The Broncos will play in the final round on Monday before returning to northern California for their next tournament on Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7, when they play in the Sacramento State Fall Invitational.
