HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Santa Clara University softball team fell to sixth-ranked Washington 7-5 this evening at the Chevron Paradise Classic, hosted by the University of Hawaii at Rainbow Wahine Stadium. The Broncos went 3-3 on the weekend and fall to 5-6 overall on the season.
The Huskies remain undefeated at 5-0 and advances to the title game against Oklahoma State.
Senior Coresta Salas and sophomore Vanessa Werner posted two hits each to lead the Broncos, while seniors Tracie Hall and Roni Rivera, along with freshman Jenny Brown, notched one hit apiece for the seven Bronco hits. Salas had a home run and three RBIs to lead SCU.
Washington posted 12 hits total and saw Rita Roach go 4-4, and Kristen Rivera go 2-3 with two runs and three RBIs. Despite Santa Clara's 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Washington scored five runs in the bottom half of the frame and increased that lead to 6-2 in the third.
Santa Clara countered with three runs in the fifth to pull to within one, but couldn't catch up.

Santa Clara will host its home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 12 against San Jose State University, as part of the Rivalry Series. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
