Softball Adds Two to Bronco Program

Nov. 20, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University softball team announced the signing of Angela Kabanuck to a national letter of intent, head coach Marcy Crouch announced during the early signing period that began last Wednesday. Additionally, former Stanford pitcher Jamie Forman-Lau will join the Bronco program with two years of eligibility remaining.

Kabanuck will join the Bronco program next fall and is the team's only fall signee. The early signing period began on November 13 and runs through today. The spring letter of intent signing period for softball is April 16 through August 1.

"Angie will be an impact player for our team next year with her speed at the plate and solid defense," Crouch said. "She is a great athlete, loves to compete, and has an endless amount of energy."

A native of Petaluma, and currently a senior at Casa Grande High School, Kabanuck also plays for the Roseville Heat 18-and-under gold travel team. She is a starter at short stop and centerfield for her high school and travel squads. A letter winner for Casa Grande in softball, basketball, cross country and golf, Kabanuck was named to the Sonoma County All-League and All-Redwood Empire first teams as a junior. Aside from her athletic talents, Kabanuck has received numerous awards for outstanding leadership and exceptional academic achievement, and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Forman-Lau will join the team for the Winter 2003 quarter and will have two years of eligibility remaining. A local product out of Archbishop Mitty High School in 1999, she played for the Cardinal as a freshman and sophomore and pitched in the 2001 World Series. Forman-Lau will graduate from Stanford this fall with a degree in comparative studies in race and ethnicity and will begin a master's program in higher education at Santa Clara.

"Jaime will be a huge asset to our team this year with the leadership and experience she brings to the circle," Crouch added. "She is a very talented pitcher with the tools to compete against the best teams in the nation. I am very excited to work with Jaime and to add such a talented athlete to this year's roster."

Santa Clara will open the 2003 season on January 31, when the team visits Santa Barbara to take part in the Easton Invitational. The Broncos will open against host UC Santa Barbara with first pitch slated for 10:15 a.m.
