No. 5 Women's Tennis Takes On No. 8 Gonzaga at the WCC Championships

Santa Clara, Calif.—Coming off of two solid wins at home this past weekend, the Santa Clara women's tennis team looks to continue this success at the West Coast Conference Championships held at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif., this week.

The No. 5 seeded Broncos, who ended the regular season 11-10 overall and 4-4 in the WCC, will take on the No. 8 seed Gonzaga on Wednesday, April 25 at 12:30 p.m. If Santa Clara wins on Wednesday, they will play the winner of the No. 4 LMU and No. 9 Portland match in the second round on Thur., April 26 at 12:30 p.m 

Santa Clara recently hosted Gonzaga (9-11; 1-7 WCC) on Sat., Apr. 21 and defeated the Bulldogs 6-1. Santa Clara won the singles point by winning five of the six singles matches. Notably, WCC All-Academic and No. 48 Katie Le downed her opponent, Prudence Teitzel, by a score of 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, freshman duo Stephanie Skaras and Brittany Warly helped secure the doubles point along with the second doubles victory from WCC All-Academic Kelly Lamble and Kacie Wagner.

If Santa Clara wins on Wednesday, they will play the winner of the No. 4 LMU and No. 9 Portland match in the second round on Thur., April 26 at 12:30 p.m. Santa Clara lost to LMU (8-15; 5-3 WCC) in a tight match by a score of 4-3. Portland is 5-14 overall and 1-6 in league. The Broncos defeated the Pilots last Sunday by a score of 6-1.
