Women’s Tennis Defeats Weber State, 5-2, on the Road

OGDEN, UtahNabila Farah, Daniella Silva and Madison Clarke each won in singles and doubles, helping lead the Santa Clara women's tennis team to a 5-2 nonconference road victory against Weber State Thursday afternoon.

With the Broncos (9-7) leading 3-1, Farah clinched the match by defeating Weber State's Domonique Beauvais 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Farah won for the eighth time in her last nine completed singles matches.

Straight-set singles wins by Clarke and Zeina El Tawil snapped a 1-all tie with the Wildcats (7-12).

Clarke easily dispatched Sara Parker 6-0, 6-1 on the No. 3 court before El Tawil knocked off Devi Hasan 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5 position.  

After Santa Clara won doubles, Weber State tied the match at 1-all when Morgan Dickason downed Elizabeth Stephens 6-0, 6-0.

The Broncos improved to 7-0 when capturing the doubles point after Clarke and Chelby Cooke won 7-5 against Hasan and Agata Bachanek at the No. 2 position.

Farah and Silva, the No. 1 doubles pair, knocked off Parker and Kristi Elmer 6-0.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Silva was extended to three sets by Bachanek, but eventually prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Silva was victorious for the seventh time in her last nine completed matches.

"They played us tough today, especially at the top of the lineup," head coach Ben Cabell said. "We accomplished our goal today, to get a win playing at altitude."

Santa Clara remains in Utah and will play BYU at 11 a.m. Pacific on Friday. Last season, the Cougars downed the Broncos, 5-2, in Santa Clara.
