Women's Water Polo Sweeps First Two Games at Tournament

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team began play at the Cal State San Bernardino Tournament in excellent fashion Saturday, registering wins over a 14-3 win over Notre Dame and a 9-6 victory over LaVerne.

The Broncos began the tournament with the convincing win over Notre Dame. Santa Clara ended the first half with a 7-3 lead, and then shutout Notre Dame in the second game en route to the 11-point margin of victory.

Elizabeth Glotzbach led the way for the Broncos offensively, netting five goals, followed by Becky Hong who score three of her own. Anne Ginotti faced only four shots on the day, making her lone block in the second half. All three Notre Dame goals came with a man advantage in the first half.

Santa Clara jumped out to another early lead in the afternoon game in San Bernardino, leading the University of LaVerne by a score of 7-1 following the first stanza. The Broncos held on for the 9-6 victory in the second game, and move on to day two of the tournament with an unblemished record.

Hong and Glotzbach again led the offensive charge, this time with Hong scoring three and Glotzbach adding two. Four other Broncos each added a goal while Anne Ginotti recorded seven blocks.

Santa Clara improves to 14-9 on the season following the pair of wins, and will play two more matches on day two of the CSUSB Tournament.
