Kitchen's Gem Leads Baseball Past UC San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Cole Kitchen had his best start of the young season and led Santa Clara baseball to a 6-1 win at UC San Diego to open the three-game series.

Kitchen (2-0) was brilliant for the Broncos (4-3) over his 7 innings of work. He allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out eight. The lone run allowed was unearned against the Santa Clara bullpen.

The offense gave Kitchen all the offense he would need right away with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by Dawson Brigman's two-run home run two batters into the game.

D. Brigman finished the game with three RBIs while Coleman Brigman collected three hits, including a double, two RBIs, a run scored, and a walk all while stealing three bases. JonJon Berring also had a multi-hit game and scored a run.

The Tritons (4-5) mustered just three hits on the night with Brock Kleszcz's double the only one that went for extra bases.

Zack Ernisse (0-2) started and took the loss. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on three hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Nic Gregson settled things down to keep UC San Diego in the game by tossing 4 1/3 one-run innings of relief with seven strikeouts.
