Baseball Falls to Arkansas to Open Fayetteville Regional

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Santa Clara baseball dropped its first game of the NCAA Regional 13-6 Friday afternoon to third seeded Arkansas.

The Broncos (35-19) jumped out to a 2-0 lead four batters into the game. The Razorbacks (42-16) offense threatened in the third by loading the bases but couldn't break through. They did in the fourth with five runs which proved to be the difference. The big blow was a pop fly that fell in just in front of a diving Coleman Brigman for a three-run single that broke a 2-2 tie.

Arkansas would go on to score five more in the six and add three more in the seventh to pull away. Santa Clara didn't go down easy, scoring two in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Both Tavian Josenberger and Caleb Cali hit home runs with Cali knocking in three and scoring three times and Joesenberger scoring twice with two RBIs. Kendall Diggs knocked in three runs as well.

Will McEntire ended up with the win out of the bullpen. In 5-plus innings, he allowed three runs on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Hunter Hollan made the start for the Razorback and got a no-decision in 2 1/3 innings of work. He allowed two runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Five Broncos finished the day with multi-hit games. Efrain Manzo had two RBIs on a single in the first and Eamon Lance added a home run in the eighth. Dawson Brigman, Coleman Brigman, and Thomas Ferroggiaro all added RBIs as well.

Skylar Hales suffered the loss in 2 innings out of the bullpen. He gave up four runs on five this with a walk and two strikeouts. Cole Kitchen went 3-plus innings in the start and ended up with a no-decision. He didn't allow a hit but walked four and gave up a run with one strikeout.

NEXT UP
The Broncos will play the loser of Arizona vs. TCU, set for tonight at 6 p.m. Pacific, tomorrow at noon in an elimination game.
