Baseball Drops Series Finale at LMU

LOS ANGELES – Santa Clara baseball dropped the finale of a three-game series 7-6 at LMU on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos (13-10, 4-5 WCC) got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first but the Lions (14-11, 7-2 WCC) answered right back with three in the bottom of the frame.

Santa Clara would later use a three-run sixth to retake the lead before three more from LMU in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the difference.

The two through four hitters did the damage for the Broncos, going a combined 7-for-12. Dawson Brigman led the way with three hits, including a home run, and scored twice. Robert Hipwell had a home run and a double to go with two runs scored and Efrain Manzo had a pair of hits, including a triple, while scoring two and knocking in one. Coleman Brigman also added two RBIs on a two-out first inning double.

Skylar Hales took the loss out of the bullpen. In 1 2/3 innings, Hales (2-1) allowed a run on two hits with a strikeout and walked three. Nick Sando started and allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in six innings.

The Lions were led by a four RBI day from Dylan Dennis whose bases loaded double in the first put them on top for the first time. Khadim Diaw had two hits and an RBI out of the leadoff spot and two-hole hitter Sam Biller collected two hits as well with two runs scored.

Will Grimm ended up with the win in an inning of relief and Merrick Baldo got his second save by tossing the final 1 2/3 innings. Owen Hackman started and was hit around a little bit, surrendering six runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
