Men’s Basketball to Face Notre Dame de Namur in Friday's Exhibition Contest

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's basketball team will face Notre Dame de Namur at 7 p.m. Friday in Leavey Center.

The Broncos' lone exhibition game will set the stage for the regular season, which gets underway on Friday, Nov. 13 with the 49th Annual Cable Car Classic.

Head coach Kerry Keating, who is entering his ninth season, and his staff will look to mesh seven returners with seven newcomers.

"I'm excited about the group. I love our kids," Keating said. "I don't know what our team is yet. I know what we can be, what we are trying to be. I think a lot of those things are still in play, trying to figure out who can help us accomplish that over the next few weeks."

Among the leading returners is junior guard Jared Brownridge, a first team All-West Coast Conference pick last season and a preseason all-league choice. He averaged a team-high 15.9 points per game last season and will looked at to provide leadership for a squad with just one senior.

In all, the Broncos return six of their top eight scorers from a year ago, including sophomore forward Matt Hubbard (6.8 ppg) and junior forward Nate Kratch (5.2 ppg). Those two are also the top returning rebounders, with Kratch averaging 4.6 in 2014-15 and Hubbard 4.0 per contest.

The newcomers include guards KJ Feagin, Matt Hauser, Werner Nistler and Brendyn Taylor, as well as forwards Henrik Jadersten, Tony Lewis and Bryson Lockley. Nistler, who joined the team in the offseason, is the lone senior on the squad.

The team began practicing on Oct. 2, but just recently had close to a full squad on the floor for workouts as Brownridge, Jadersten, Feagin, Jarvis Pugh and Evan Wardlow missed a various amount of time. In addition, Lewis has missed the entire preseason with a lower leg injury.

"We'll be playing a little bit of catch up, but the good thing is we have mostly a healthy roster for now," Keating said.
