Men's Water Polo Signs East Coast Standout

May 7, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo program signed 5-11, two-meter guard Kevin Starry to a national letter of intent, head coach Keith Wilbur announced during the late signing period that began April 16.

"Kevin is one of the top players coming out of the east coast this year," Wilbur said. "The club water program at Navy is one of the best in the country, and Kevin has benefited from playing there for the last eight years. Mike Schofield, the coach of the Navy club team and also the coach of Navy's college team, speaks very highly of Kevin's water polo abilities as well as his character. Kevin is the type of player who will have an immediate positive impact on our team, and I am very much looking forward to having him at Santa Clara next year."

Starry is a product of Saint Mary's High School in Annapolis, Md. He is a four-time Junior Olympic All-American, and is one of only two high school players that participates on the Northeast National Team of the Premier League. A two-time member of the Northeast Zone Youth Team, Starry has also won a silver and a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics and is an accomplished swimmer as well.

Santa Clara did not have one senior on its 2002 roster. Starry will join the Broncos in the fall with 14 returning players on the 2003 squad.
