Men's Water Polo Falls to Pacific

SARATOGA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo squad played well and gained some valuable experience despite the 15-3 loss to the University of the Pacific Saturday morning at West Valley College.

The Broncos (10-16) battled the eighth-ranked Tigers all day in the pool, but just could not match the experience and skill of their opponents. Whit Gilfillan led the Santa Clara offense as the freshman scored twice on the day. Fellow freshman Marc Hausle added the other Bronco goal. Netminder Peter Moore tallied 11 saves between the pipes.

"I thought we played really well today considering our competition," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "They are traditionally a national power and these kinds of games can only help us get better and raise our level of play."

Santa Clara returns to action next weekend in Honolulu, Hawaii, taking on BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade and Cal Baptist in the tree-day tournament beginning November 1.
