SANTA CLARA, Calif.- In their first home game of the season, the No. 16 Broncos played tough, but could not hold off No. 2 UCLA. The Broncos then played an exhibition game against West Valley College and defeated the Vikings 11-10.

"UCLA is obviously a great team and have been ranked one or two all season," said Broncos head coach Keith Wilbur. "We needed to do the little things better to execute our offense. David Guibord and Matt Pritchett stood out for us in that game and I thought we played well in certain areas, like transition defense."

The Bruins opened up the game with two quick goals. Their fast-paced counter-attack down the pool caught the Broncos off-guard and UCLA continued on a five goal run. Tucker Carlson and Graham McClone earned two ejections to give the Broncos a man-up opportunity, but they could not covert the plays into goals. The first quarter ended 5-0, UCLA with the advantage.

The Bruins continued their run into the second quarter, scoring two more to open up the quarter. Carlson drew another ejection and this time the Broncos converted it into a goal. David Guibord put the Broncos first goal in. The Broncos were able to contain the Bruins better this quarter and ended the half 8-1.

Right off the bat, the Bruins came out firing and went on a four goal unanswered run. Pritchett had a number of big saves this quarter to put a stop to the Bruins offense. Pritchett tallied 16 saves in the game. With six seconds to go, Guibord squeezed another goal in ending the quarter 12-2, UCLA up.

The Broncos gave it their final best effort in the fourth quarter, but the Bruins defense was too strong and the Broncos could not convert their opportunities. The Bruins went on to score four more goals, and left the pool with the win 16-2. 

Later in the day, the Broncos played an exhibition game against West Valley College. The game was back and forth through all four quarters, but the Broncos were able to get the win at the very end.  

Starting on Thurs., Oct. 24, the Broncos will host The Rodeo tournament. The tournament will kick off Thursday night at 6 pm as the Broncos take on No. 18 Cal Baptist. Be sure to come out and support your Broncos!
