Men's Water Polo Continues Their Streak, Picking Up Three Wins Over the Weekend

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The No. 15 Broncos continue their winning streak after picking up  two wins on Saturday and a third on Sunday over No. 18 Redlands. The team is now 9-4 for the season.

Looking to pick up their first away win, the Broncos came out strong in their first game on Saturday again Fresno Pacific in their home pool and defeated the Sunbird 13-9. The Sunbirds hung in with the Broncos for the first half of the game, making it 6-5 their advantage going into half time. But the Broncos defense took over the game and only allowed Fresno Pacific to score three more goals in the second half, ending the game 13-9. The Broncos scored four goals in the third and four in the fourth period.

Matt Kochalko led the Broncos with three goals scored, followed by Patrick Weiss, Theo Nasser and Mark Davis who put up two goals each. Evan Chang, David Guibord, Jimmy Moore, Matt Godar and Graham McClone each scored one goal.

Matt Pritchett had a big game in the cage with nine blocks, two steals and one assist.

In their second game on Saturday, the Broncos faced Occidental and defeated them 12-6. Kyle Nadel had a big game, scoring three goals for the Broncos. Godar threw in two more goals this game and Stephen Bilz, Tucker Carlson, Will Grant, James Rude, Graham McClone, Guibord and Weiss each had one goal. Pritchett made 11 saves in this game.

The Bronco defense really showed up to play on Sunday keeping No. 18 Redlands scoreless going into the half time, and eventually defeating them 13-6.

"I think that was one of our best defensive efforts of the season," said Bronco head coach Keith Wilbur. "Redlands is a really solid team this year, so being able to keep them scoreless going into half is a pretty big deal. This was a really big win for us."

Pritchett spearheaded the defense by blocking 12 shots on the cage, his record for the weekend. Davis, Moore, Guibord and Godar led the offensive effort, each scoring two goals. Casidhe McClone and Garrat Johnson scored their first goals of the weekend, and Kochalko, Weiss and Graham McClone each had one goal.

The Broncos will now look forward to some of their toughest competition this season, No. 3 Stanford in their home pool on Oct. 5 at 5 pm.
