No.14 Broncos Fall On Second Day of WWPA Tournament

Davis, Calif.- After a hard-fought battle on day two of the WWPA Tournament, the No. 14 Broncos fell to No. 10 UC San Diego, 8-4. The Broncos now advance on to compete for third place against No. 15 LMU on Sunday at 12:15 pm.

UC San Diego came out strong to open up the game, and went on a three-goal unanswered run. Garrat Johnson was able to find the back on the net halfway through the first to give the Broncos their first goal of the game. The Tritons put one more in and went into the second quarter with the 4-1 advantage.

Patrick Weiss started off the second quarter with a goal for the Broncos to make the game 4-2, Triton advantage. The Broncos were able to keep the Tritons at bay in the second, and only allowed them to score one goal. UC San Diego took it into half, 5-2.

After battling for the first minutes of the third quarter, Jimmy Moore capitalized on the power play and brought the Broncos within two, 5-3 UCSD. The Tritons managed to slip on by Matt Pritchett and the Broncos defense with 42 second left in the quarter, making the game 6-3.

The Tritons went on a two goal run to start off the fourth period, and the Broncos could not make a come back. Graham McClone found the back of the net one more time for the Broncos, but the Tritons left the pool with the 8-4 win.

The Broncos will now compete for a third place finish in the conference and are set to play LMU Sunday in their final game of the tournament. The Broncos defeated LMU earlier this season, 10-6, and are looking to do it again to end their season with a win.
