SANTA CLARA, Calif.- After a game filled weekend, the No. 16 Broncos picked up four wins, including their first conference win of the season over No. 17 Cal Baptist in overtime. The Broncos are now 13-10 for the season and 1-1 in conference.

In their first game of the tournament on Thursday, the Broncos faced No. 18 Cal Baptist. After battling for most of the first quarter, Cal Baptist scored the first goal of the game. That lit a fire in the Broncos and they went on a three goal run with goals by Matt Kochalko, Theo Nasser and Patrick Weiss. The Broncos ended the quarter with the advantage, 3-1. 

The Lancers quickly answer the Broncos' run and scored three goals of their own to start the second quarter.  Mark Davis and Graham McClone both got their first goals of the game to bring the Broncos back within one. The Lancers took it into half leading, 6-5.

The Broncos couldn't find the back of the cage in the third, which allowed the Lancers to score one more goal and made the score 7-5. To start the fourth, Nasser earned an ejection that allowed Matt Godar to score, bringing t he Broncos back within one. Tucker Carlson was able to find the back of the net, tying the game. With neither team able to score in the fourth, the game went into overtime tied at 7-7.

Graham McClone started the first overtime period by earning a penalty shot. Carlson took the penalty shot, and put it away to give the Broncos an 8-7 lead. At the very end of the over time period the Lancers drew a penalty shot and converted to retie the game 8-8.  In the second overtime period, Carlson scored with 56 seconds left to play, and that deflated the Lancers. David Guibord threw one final goal in from half court to give the Broncos the win, 10-8.

In their second game of the tournament, the Broncos faced No.17 Harvard in an early morning game. With an earned ejection by Nasser, Weiss was able to score the first goal of the game to give the Broncos the lead 1-0. Nasser drew another penalty shot, which was taken and scored by Moore to make the game 2-0. Harvard tried to battle back and put their first goal in, but Carlson fired back with another Broncos goal. Guibord put his first goal in of the game, but Harvard went on a two goal run to end the quarter 4-3, Bronco advantage.

Harvard continued its run into the second quarter and put a goal in to tie the game, 4-4. Kyle Nadel scored his first goal of the tournament, giving the Broncos the advantage again 5-4. Harvard tied the game again, but Carlson gave the Broncos back the lead 6-5. Evan Chang scored his first goal of the tournament and the Broncos went into the half leading 7-5.

Harvard opened up the third quarter with a goal, but James Rude answered back, scoring his first goal of the tournament, Broncos up 8-6. Harvard put two more goals in the third and the Broncos had three more goals, one from Jimmy Moore and two more by Carlson to make the game 11-8 going into the fourth.

Rude opened up the fourth with another goal for the Broncos. Harvard put in one more goal, and the Broncos left the pool with the win, 12-9.

In there second game on Saturday, the Broncos played No. 17 Brown. The Bears scored the first goal of the game and proceeded to go on a run, scoring two more. G. McClone scored the first goal of the game from the Broncos, ending Browns run.  Brown ended the first quarter with the advantage, 3-1.

Matt Pritchett came up with some crucial saves in the beginning of the second to fight off the Bears offense. Carlson earned a penalty shot, and was able to convert, bringing the Broncos within one. Brown scored another goal, but Weiss quickly answered back, making the game 4-3, Brown advantage. Brown went on another two goal run, giving it the 6-3 advantage.

Brown continued its run to open up the third quarter, but Matt Godar ended the run with a goal and Chang put in his first goal of the game, making the game 7-5 Brown advantage.  Both teams scored two more goals and ended the quarter 9-7, Brown leading.

After battling the first half of the fourth quarter, Moore took a penalty shot that brought the Broncos back within one. In a man-up opportunity, the Broncos were able to convert with a goal from Godar to tie the game 9-9. G. McClone earned an ejection with 32 seconds left to play in the game. Off of a timeout, Godar put in the game-winning goal for the Broncos. The Broncos left the pool win a well deserved win over Brown 10-9.

On Sunday, the Broncos faced off against the No. 10 Concordia Eagles. The Broncos kept the game close with goals by Weiss, Nadel and Carlson. The Eagles had the lead 4-3 going into the second quarter.

Nadel started off the second quarter with a goal to tie the game 4-4. Davis followed suit, putting in another goal to give the Broncos a one-goal lead. The Eagles were able to come back and go on a three-goal run in the end of the second quarter to give them the advantage, 7-5.

The Eagles continued their run into the third quarter and scored two more goals. The Broncos battled hard, but the Eagles defense proved to be too much and the Broncos could not convert their opportunities. Stephen Bilz put in one more goal for the Broncos and the game ended, 12-6 Concordia with the win.

In their final game of the weekend, the Broncos played No. 18 Bucknell. The Broncos started off the game with a four goal run with goals by Weiss, Rude and two from Nasser. The Bison were able to slip one goal in but G. McClone and Garrat Johnson each scored a goal to give the Broncos the advantage, 6-1.

The Broncos kept their offense up in the second quarter. Kmochalko scored his first goal of the game, Carlson put in two goals and Nasser scored his third of the game. The Bison got a few goals in and brought the game within four. The Broncos went into the half with the advantage, 10-6.

Bucknell opened up the third quarter with a goal, but Rude answered right back. The Bison proceeded to go on a three-goal run to bring the game within one. Kochalko put his second goal in of the game, ending the Bison run, and gave the Broncos the advantage heading into the fourth, 12-10.

The Bison gave it their best effort in the final quarter but the Broncos were able to contain them. Two more goals by Carlson and Weiss sealed the deal and the Broncos left the pool with another win, 14-12.

Pritchett had a lights-out weekend and had a combined 78 blocks from all five games.

The Broncos are heading into their final games of the season. Starting Nov. 1, the Broncos will head down to Southern California and are set to play three conference games at No. 12 UC San Diego, Pomona-Pitzer and No. 13 Loyola Marymount.
