SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Fresh off two weeks of tournament action in the Bay Area, Santa Clara University's women's golf team will play in the 2011 Fresno State Lexus Classic Monday and Tuesday, March 7-8 at Copper River Country Club in Fresno.

Bronco senior Miki Ueoka – who won the Fresno Classic as sophomore – has posted a pair of top 10 scores to begin the 2011 spring season, tying for fourth last week at the Juli Inkster Invitational in San Jose. Ueoka led the Broncos to a strong finish as group, with SCU turning in rounds of 305-311-305.

"Being a senior this year and coming up to our last couple tournaments, I am really trying to enjoy it and appreciate my experience here (at Santa Clara)," said Ueoka. "From a golf perspective I am focused on trying to win tournaments."

Her 7-under par performance (68-69-72) in Fresno two years ago is one of three tournament titles she has won as a collegiate player. Ueoka became the first-ever Santa Clara women's golfer to qualify for the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships that same season.

The field in Fresno features 16 teams, six who are ranked ahead of Santa Clara nationally by GolfStat.com – however, Santa Clara (ranked 120) out played both Fresno State (103) and UC Irvine (100) last week. Three of the teams are West Coast Conference opponents, Portland (183), USF (124) and new WCC women's golf addition Seattle (200).

Look for upperclassmen Tamara Surtees and Lauren Oh (pictured) to challenge for a spot among the tournament leaders. Surtees, an All-WCC honoree last season, won her first college title earlier this year. Oh shot rounds of 75-79-77 to tie for 22nd last week.

Santa Clara's first-year head coach Krystal Kelly has a roster of six golfers: two seniors (Ueoka and Oh), two juniors (Surtees and Kelsy O'Brien) and two freshmen (Taylor Camany and Brooke Stephens).
