Women’s Golfers Staying Busy Over the Summer

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Current and future members of the Santa Clara women's golf team have been keeping busy on the links this summer.

• Kristin Le, a senior in the fall who participated in her first NCAA regional last spring, nearly qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship. Last week, she participated in one of the qualifiers, which was held at Cameron Park Country Club. Le ended the day with a 1-over par 73, missing the cut by one stroke. However, Le will be the first alternate for the tournament to be held on Aug. 7-13, at San Diego Country Club.

• Sophomore Marni Murez, an incoming transfer from Boston College, is representing the U.S. at the 20th Maccabiah Games in Israel. The preliminary rounds for women's golf will take place Tuesday with the final round on Thursday. Murez is one of five U.S. women's golfers participating in the international event. Murez played for the Eagles last season and competed in the 2015 US Girls' Junior Amateur Championship.

Incoming freshman Emily Sumner qualified for the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Amateur Championship Tuesday. She carded a 1-over 73 to finish tied for sixth at the qualifier held at Goose Creek Golf Club in Mira Loma, California. The top 25 finishers advance to the championship, which is set for July 31-Aug. 1 at San Gabriel Country Club in San Gabriel, California.
