ACWPC Names Eight Broncos to Academic Team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the 2014 Women's All Academic Team earlier this week. Eight Broncos landed themselves on the ACWPC All Academic team, including seniors June Afshar, Ashley Letrich, Claire Eadington and Jenny Anderson, junior Ashliegh Bandimere, sophomores Erin Sheridan and Elle Surber and freshman Cathy Cantoni.

"I think it is great that we have eight players on the ACWPC All-Academic team, and our team was recognized for having an overall GPA over 3.0," said Bronco head coach Keith Wilbur. "In a year where we had a very strong season with some milestone wins and finished with a top-20 national ranking, it is nice to see that we have continued to perform well in the classroom.  The focus at Santa Clara is on academics first, and I think our players do an outstanding job of balancing the demands of playing college water polo with their work in the classroom."

To be eligible for nomination on the team, and athlete must be an active participant and complete 50 percent of games in the current season, have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and be a full-time student.

The ACWPC creates three merit levels: 3.2 to 3.4 for Excellent, 3.41 to 3.7 for Superior, and 3.71 to 4.0 for Outstanding.

Afshar, Sheridan, Bandimere and Letrich lead the team and received Superior honors. Anderson, Surber, Eadington and Cantoni received Excellent honors for their efforts in the classroom as well.
