Lauren Radich: Working Hard and Staying Focused

By Meredith Ray '18

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Senior water polo player Lauren Radich (LR) talked with Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) about the upcoming season and what she is looking forward to this year. In her years at SCU, Radich has been a key contributor for the Broncos, including seeing time in all 30 games in 2014.

SCB: You're a senior this year. Is there a different mindset for you coming into this year than last?

LR: My mindset is still the same, to work hard, stay focused and have fun with my team. Now that I am a senior I look to be more of a leader in and out of the water and take on different responsibilities from the years past.

SCB: As a junior in 2014, you saw time in all 30 games that season. Tell me a little about that. How was it playing in every game?

LR: It is always a thrill getting the opportunity to play in each game with my teammates. We work so well with one another and the energy levels are always so high. We pump each other up for each game and I can always count on them for support in the water.

SCB: Several of your family members graduated from Santa Clara. Did they play any role in contributing to your decision to come to SCU?

LR: I have had a lot of family that graduated from Santa Clara and currently two of my cousins are here with me as well. They definitely played a large role in my decision to attend Santa Clara with all of their fun stories and the memories they made here.

SCB: How did you stay in shape over the summer? What fun things did you do?

LR: This summer I swam with a masters team a few times a week in order to stay in shape. I also was busy with a marketing internship for an entrepreneur, which was a great experience for my major!

SCB: What are you looking forward to most this upcoming season?

LR: Each new season I look forward to continuing to build upon success from the previous season and of course, getting to know the new freshmen. I am excited for games to begin in January and face some new teams. Preseason is going well so far and I know we are all looking forward to our annual fall scrimmages!
