Nicolette Balch Reflects on Santa Clara Water Polo

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Senior women's water polo player Nicolette Balch (NB) talked with Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) about her team, her life here at SCU, and her plans after college.

SCB: This is your fourth and final year at SCU, what has been your favorite part about SCU so far?

NB: My favorite part of Santa Clara has simply been the memories and friends I've made! Santa Clara not only has a great reputation of academics and athletics, but a great sense of community and positivity. My best personal memories come from water polo and weekend getaway trips and adventures with good friends!

SCB: How did you spend your last summer as a college student?

NB: This past summer I had an internship in Los Angeles at FOX Sports. I worked with their marketing team and with production on their live show. It was really cool; a great experience! Other than that I was at the beach and surfing back home in San Diego!

SCB: After graduation do you think you will move back to Southern California, or have you fallen in love with the Bay Area?

NB: As much as I love our beautiful Santa Clara bubble, I do see myself living in SoCal. Whether I work back in San Diego or in LA, it's hard to not miss the lifestyle and the beach! But who know what the future will bring!

SCB: How long have you been playing water polo? What about the sport do you enjoy the most?

NB: I've been playing water polo since 8th grade. I've always been a water baby, and grew up at the beach and ocean. The things I enjoy most about polo is the feeling of scoring a great strong goal, cheering on your teammates and comeback/upset wins!

SCB: You and your team must have become really close over the last few years, is it going to be difficult to leave them?

NB: It's crazy to realize that I'm already a senior - my friends and I haven't really accepted the term YET. Time flies! It is going to be hard leaving a group you've spent so much of your time, laughs and energy with! It's a great team and with great chemistry! For now, I'm not thinking about leaving, but enjoying and living senior year to the fullest! GO BRONCOS!! SCUWWP TEAM 15!!
