Women’s Water Polo Senior Earns Spot on West Coast Conference Governance Structure

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Hannah Buck of Santa Clara women's water polo finished her stellar career last month, but continues to make a difference outside the pool.

Beginning with June's West Coast Conference executive council and presidents' council meetings, one student-athlete from each school in the league will formally join the governance structure and Buck will serve as Santa Clara's student-athlete representative (STAR).

Buck will join athletics directors, faculty athletics representatives and senior woman administrators from all 10 institutions on June 4, in Portland, Oregon.

Last summer, Buck accompanied Jack Larkin (men's water polo) and Anna McCreadie (volleyball) who represented Santa Clara at the WCC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leadership Summit.

A three-time all-league performer who ended her career fourth in school history with 154 goals, Buck was selected by the WCC to serve as the league's NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative for 2018-19.

"The WCC STAR initiative is a huge step for our conference and for student-athletes, showing the willingness of the WCC to hear about our experiences," said Buck. "As STARs, we hope to bring the student-athlete voice to the people who can have a direct impact on our collegiate experience and continue to improve the lives of the WCC student-athletes both now and for those who come after us."

In executive council meetings, STAR members will discuss issues and legislation relating to student-athlete welfare both at the conference and the NCAA level. The student-athlete representatives will also review Conference policies, procedures, and initiatives, and help cast their school's vote. The four executive council representatives from each school act as a delegation, and each delegation has one vote in the Council voting process.
