West Coast Conference Hall of Honor Induction Saturday for Aly Wagner

Wagner Santa Clara Hall of Fame Profile

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – On of the most decorated players in a program rich with history, Aly Wagner of Santa Clara women's soccer will be inducted into the West Coast Conference Hall of Honor Saturday.

Wagner, along with nine others, will be formally inducted during the WCC Hall of Honor Brunch at 9 a.m. in the Mardi Gras Ballroom in the Orleans Hotel.

The other nine inductees are: BYU's Wally Joyner (baseball), Gonzaga's Heather Bowman (women's basketball), Loyola Marymount's Terrell Lowery (men's basketball), Pacific's Dell Demps (men's basketball), Pepperdine's Nina Matthies (women's volleyball), Portland's David Kinsella (cross country/track), Saint Mary's Ruth Montgomery (women's soccer), San Diego's Hank Egan (men's basketball), and San Francisco's Taggert Bozied (baseball).

Wagner was a two-time First Team All-American and took home the 2002 Hermann Trophy and the 2001 Honda Award.

During the Broncos 2001 title campaign, she was named the College Cup Offensive MVP and still holds Santa Clara records for postseason goals, assists, points, and game winning goals. One of the game winners was the lone goal in a 1-0 win over North Carolina in the 2001 title match. During three trips to the College Cup, she was named to the all-tournament team twice.

Her success extended to her national team days as well. She was a part of the U.S. team from 1999 through 2008 while playing for her country in the 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women's World Cups and the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, while earning 131 caps and scoring 21 goals to go with 42 assists.

Wagner also played professionally with her career beginning when she was the first overall pick by the San Diego Spirit of the Women's United Soccer Association. She also played for the Boston Breakers, Olympique Lyonnais, and the Los Angles Sol.

Even after her playing days, Wagner continued to make an impact in the world of soccer by becoming the first woman to announce a FIFA World Cup match as a color analyst in 2018. She has called the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France and calls games for NBC, FOX, and Lifetime.

Tickets to the WCC Hall of Honor Brunch & Induction Ceremony are available to the public for $40 and may be purchased by contacting Lindsey Jones in the WCC office via email – Ljones@westcoast.org. Tickets must be purchased by Monday, February 24.
