SANTA CLARA, Calif - Santa Clara University baseball will turn back the clock at its May 1st Community Day celebration with a special appearance by the South County Jaspers and the San Jose Dukes of the Bay Area Vintage Base Ball League at the new Stephen Schott Stadium on the Mission Campus.
The two teams, which are equipped with 1880s uniforms and equipment, will be in attendance prior to and during the game and will be available for autographs and pictures. Following the Broncos' 1 p.m. game against Gonzaga, the two teams will play a two-inning exhibition game.

Scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch against West Coast Conference rival Gonzaga, the event will serve as the final game of a three-game series against the Bulldogs. Santa Clara Mayor Patricia M. Mahan will throw out the honorary first pitch. Presented by the City of Santa Clara and the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce and Convention-Visitors Bureau, Santa Clara residents will be able to purchase tickets for half price off an adult admission with a valid proof of residency, including a driver's license or utility bill.

Bay Area Vintage Base Ball is dedicated to preserving the style of play that was in affect between 1880-1890. BAVBB uses 10-member teams to play 8-to-10 games each season in a fun, relaxed atmosphere where true grit is displayed and sportsmanship is the holy grail. Each team is outfitted in reproduction uniforms from the 1880's, and the equipment consists of reproduction balls, gloves, bases etc that are made to look, feel, and perform as they did when the game was still home-grown.
