MORAGA, Calif. - Due to rain, the Santa Clara baseball team's game at Saint Mary's was delayed on Friday afternoon. The contest will resume tomorrow, in the top of the third inning, at noon at Louis Guisto Field.
The match-up was the first of a three-game series on the campus of Saint Mary's College. Saturday's action will now begin at noon as the teams continue play in the first game. The second game will follow the first on Saturday afternoon. Sunday's contest is still set for a 1 p.m. start.
The score was tied at 0-0 in the top of the third inning when the rain began. Junior Kevin Drever, who had already extended his hitting streak to 11 games, was up to bat when the game was called. Eric Newton was on second base with only one out after Ryan Chiarelli's sacrifice bunt moved Newton over.
Following the series with Saint Mary's, the Broncos will head to Stanford on Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. contest at Sunken Diamond. SCU will then return home on Friday, April 29 to host Gonzaga in a three-game conference set. The series will see the Broncos say good-bye to Buck Shaw Stadium and hello to Stephen Schott Stadium on Saturday, April 30.
