Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball – August Souza
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the fifth member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2019-20 season, August Souza.  The right-handed pitcher currently attends Reno High in Reno, Nev.  Prep Baseball Report recently ranked Souza as the No. 8 pitcher and No. 10 player overall in Nevada for the class of 2019.

"Santa Clara University was the right choice for me for a multitude of reasons.  Coach Filter is one of the best pitching coaches in the country and I want to be coached by the best.  I believe he is setting the bar high for Santa Clara to become one of the top programs in the nation and the entire coaching staff is what makes the program one of great respect.  All of my training now is goal oriented toward a winning season for Reno High and showing up at Santa Clara next fall ready to make an impact from day one," said Souza.  "Santa Clara's academic reputation is outstanding as academics are very important to my family and I.  I also have relatives in the Bay Area and while I will be away from home, it is close enough for my parents to watch me play.  I cannot wait to get to work and I am honored to get to attend and play for such a great school."

The 6-foot-2 Souza was selected to play for the 17U Trosky National Team during 2017-18 season and is a Perfect Game top 500 nationally ranked player.

"August is someone we tracked for quite awhile.  He is an upper 80's, lower 90's right-handed pitcher.  I really liked the command of his breaking ball and he is a really good competitor.  We are excited to have him come to Santa Clara," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.
