Santa Clara Falls to No. 9 Pacific 8-4

Nov. 12, 2005

Stockton, Calif. - Despite two goals from Tom Hendrickson, the Santa Clara men's water polo team dropped an 8-4 decision to No. 9 Pacific earlier this afternoon in Stockton, Calif. Earlier this season, the Broncos upset the Tigers 9-8 at home to register its first victory over a ranked opponent in 2005, though the visors were unable to recapture the same magic. UOP jumped out to an early lead and SCU was never able to get back on track.

"Pacific is a tough team and it's difficult to play them in their pool," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "We played well for four quarters, but they jumped out on us at the very beginning. There are some things we have to fine tune and fix before our conference championships next weekend."

In addition to Hendrickson, Chris Parolin and Luke Oda each added a goal in the losing effort. Grant Allison drew a team-high four kickouts, while Jon Young started in the cage in place of injured starter Michael Petersen and played a strong game, totaling seven blocks and two steals.

The Broncos even their record at 14-14 on the year. Next weekend, Santa Clara travels to Los Angeles to compete in the three-day Western Water Polo Association Championships. Matches begin on Thursday and the tournament will run through Saturday.
