Women's Basketball Releases Strong Non-Conference Schedule

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The 2022-23 non-conference portion of the Santa Clara University women's basketball team's schedule includes games against five postseason teams from a year ago, multiple Power 5 opponents, local rivalries and plenty of in-state action.

The Broncos (16-15, 8-10 West Coast Conference in 2021-22) will play 13 non-conference games in addition to their 18-game WCC schedule, announced in August. Seven of those 13 non-conference games will be played at home in the Leavey Center, including an exhibition on Nov. 1 against NCAA Division II foe Academy of Art.

Santa Clara's 2022-23 regular season kicks off on Nov. 7 with a three-game homestand. The Broncos will host UC Santa Barbara on opening night (Nov. 7), then follow with home contests against Cal State Fullerton (Nov. 11) and Sacramento State (Nov. 14). The Broncos host rival San Jose State on Dec. 13, as well as Lincoln University on Dec. 2 and UC Santa Cruz on Dec. 4. They also host 2022 WNIT participant Kansas City on Nov. 22 before traveling to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving weekend, where they'll take on South Dakota and Pac-12 Conference member Washington. South Dakota reached the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 a year ago.

Three of Santa Clara's four true road games in 2022-23 are against 2022 postseason teams. The Broncos travel up El Camino Real on Nov. 30 to take on 2021 national champion and 2022 Final Four team Stanford. It'll be the Broncos' first game against the Cardinal since 2015-16, and their first game against them under Carr's guidance.

The Broncos travel to Reno on Dec. 11 to face WBI participant Nevada. They'll head to Southern California in mid-November for a two-game swing against CSUN (Nov. 17) and 2022 WNIT qualifier Cal Baptist (Sat. 19).

"We've built a very competitive non-conference schedule for our team this season," said Santa Clara head coach Bill Carr. "I believe it will be great."

In all, Santa Clara's 2022-23 schedule includes 17 games – more than half the schedule – against 11 different postseason teams from 2022. That includes four NCAA Tournament teams (Gonzaga, BYU, Stanford, South Dakota), five WNIT teams (Cal Baptist, Kansas City, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco), and two WBI squads, Saint Mary's – who won the tournament – and Nevada.
