Heal Earns Second Consecutive WCC Freshman of the Week Award

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Santa Clara University women's basketball freshman guard Tess Heal was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week Monday for the second time in as many weeks, as she earned the accolade for the week of Nov. 14-20.

Heal continued to impress in the early goings of her first year in college basketball, averaging 15.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds with three double-digit scoring games during the week. She scored 16 points versus Sacramento State on Monday, scored a team-high 19 points on the road Thursday at CSUN, then scored 10 and tied season highs with seven assists and six rebounds on the road Saturday at Cal Baptist.

Heal shot 50.0% from the floor (16 for 32), 33.3% from 3-point range (2 for 6) and was a perfect 100% from the free-throw line (11 for 11) during the week. Two weeks into her freshman season and she's averaging 17.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 50.0% from the floor and 82.2% from the free-throw line. Heal is the WCC's leading scorer, and she's the highest-scoring freshman among all conferences on the West Coast (WCC, Pac-12, Mountain West, Big West, WAC, Big Sky). She's the sixth-ranked freshman in the nation for points per game as of Monday.
