Heal Earns Third Consecutive WCC Freshman of the Week Award

SAN MATEO, Calif. — It's not even December yet and Santa Clara University women's basketball freshman guard Tess Heal is already putting together her campaign for some after-season hardware.

Heal earned her third consecutive West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week award in as many weeks Monday after posting three more double-figure scoring games and helping lead the Broncos to a 3-0 week during the week of Nov. 21-27.

Heal averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists during Santa Clara's three victories while shooting 60.6% from the field, 60.0% from 3-point range and 77.8% from the free-throw line. Her biggest performance came Saturday against perhaps the Broncos' biggest opponent on the biggest stage.

Heal scored 23 points Saturday against the University of Washington in the final game of the Las Vegas Holiday Classic at Orleans Arena to lead Santa Clara to its first win over the Huskies in 21 years. It was her second 20-point game this season, which raised her scoring average to 17.4 points per game – third in the WCC and 84th in the nation. She scored 11 points in the first quarter against UW, including seven during an 11-0 run by the Broncos that gave them the lead for good.

Heal also scored 16 points on Tuesday in the Broncos' huge win over Kansas City, and scored 11 Thursday in Santa Clara's win over 2022 Sweet 16 team South Dakota. She also had four steals during the week and carried a 1.71 assists/turnovers ratio.

Heal and the Broncos take their three-game winning streak up El Camino Real on Wednesday to face No. 2-ranked Stanford. They then return home on Friday and Sunday for their first home games of December. Fans can purchase tickets find all live coverage links on the Broncos' schedule page.
