SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara beach volleyball sent seniors Gretchen Reinert and Kathryn Decker out with a win in their last home dual on Wednesday. The Broncos defeated San Francisco 3-2 in a West Coast Conference matchup at the SCU Beach Volleyball Courts.
Santa Clara's three winning pairs all took their matches in straight sets, and five of those six frames were won by 11 or more points. The Broncos (3-2, 3-2 WCC) defeated the Dons (1-5, 1-5) for the second time in six days after a 5-0 win last week at the WCC Midseason Invitational.
Reinert, playing in her 50th contest with Santa Clara, teamed up with Kat Georgiadis for a decisive 21-10, 21-6 victory over Sara Denham/Jessica Eanes on court four. Their win clinched the dual for the Broncos.
Michelle Shaffer/Julia Sangiacomo rolled to a 21-7, 21-3 victory over Tanner Pemberton/Katie Wagstaff on court two to get the day started. Jordan Bennett/Alex Anthony won their match 21-17, 21-9 over Sophie Sydenham/Greta Corti at the third flight for the Broncos.
The Dons produced three-set wins at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots; all six sets in those matchups were decided by five or fewer points. Anna Dalla Vecchia/Catie Cronister topped Decker/Claire Doud 21-18, 21-23, 15-12 and Bruna Correa/Serafina Rivera edged Alexia Gallegos/Elizabeth Held 21-18, 16-21, 15-13.
