Beach Volleyball Well-Represented in WCC Academic Awards

WCC RELEASE

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Santa Clara beach volleyball was recognized for its performance in the classroom and in the competitive arena on Tuesday as six Broncos earned West Coast Conference All-Academic recognition. Julia Sangiacomo was named to the first team, while Alex Anthony, Claire Doud, Kathryn Decker, Gretchen Reinert and Michelle Shaffer each received an honorable mention accolade.

The Broncos matched their program record with six selections for the second season in a row.

Sangiacomo (biology major) posted the highest cumulative GPA among student-athletes selected to the first team.

Reinert (communication) earned her third-straight honorable mention.

Anthony (communication), Decker (psychology) and Shaffer (accounting) were recognized for the second season in a row with honorable mentions.

Doud (communication) received her first conference academic award in her first season of eligibility.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
