SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Kicking off the second home tournament in as many weeks, Santa Clara softball (2-9) lost to Nevada (10-2) 4-1 and Illinois-Chicago (6-6) 8-3 on Friday on the opening day of the Santa Clara Invitational.

Game 1
A two-run blast to left by Amanda Weiss got the scoring going in the top of the second with no outs. It turned out to be all the runs McKenna Isenberg (4-1) would need as she was brilliant.

Isenberg (4-1) got the win going the distance. She allowed a run on five hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts

The Wolfpack would add two more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

McCall James (0-4) pitched through traffic for the complete game but got a loss. She allowed four runs on 12 hits with a walk.

Santa Clara brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh when a great at bat by Morgan Modesto led to a single to load the bases. Amanda Delfino followed with an RBI single up the middle.

Delfino had the lone Bronco RBI and Justine Garner scored the run.

Weiss led the Nevada offense with two hits, including a two run home run. Kwynn Warner added a pair of hits and a run scored.

Game 2
A quick two-spot for the Flames put Santa Clara in an early hole for the second game in a row.

UIC followed it up with two more runs in the second and another in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Micaela Vierra  (2-5) lasted just 2.0 innings in the start and got the loss. She allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.

The Broncos finally broke through in the home half of the four with three runs. The first five batters all recorded hits to bring in all three runs.

The Flames, however, answered right back with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth.

Karissa Frazier (0-1) picked up a no-decision in 3.0-plus innings in the start. She allowed three runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
