Softball Plays at Highlander Classic in Riverside Starting Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball heads out on the road for back-to-back tournaments away from home. The Broncos play at the Highlander Classic in Riverside, Calif. Saturday and Sunday. They will play Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. vs. UC Riverside and Utah State and Sunday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. vs. Utah State and UC Riverside.

Last week the Broncos won a pair of games in the Santa Clara Invitational. They took down UConn 3-0 and Illinois-Chicago 4-3 in nine innings.

Santa Clara (4-10) is hitting .238 as a team with a home run, two triples, and 15 doubles. The Broncos have scored 43 runs as a team.

Casandra Padilla leads the team with a .333 batting average. She is tops with a home run and eight RHO and has added a double. She is also tied for the team lead with six runs scored.

Ellie Fisher is hitting .267 with a team-high five stolen bases. She has added seven walks and two doubles while scoring six runs.

The Broncos have a 3.68 team ERA in 97.0 innings with 36 strikeouts.

Micaela Vierra has appeared in 10 games and made seven starts. She has thrown five complete games and two shutouts. In 48.2 innings Vierra has a 2.59 ERA and three wins with 23 strikeouts.

McCall James has a win and a 4.85 ERA. She has appeared in nine games and made seven starts with three complete games. She has struck out 13 in 47.2 innings.

Utah State (5-6) is hitting .270 as a team with six home runs, one triple, and 12 doubles. The Aggies have been outscored 53-36 on the season.

Sarah Chow leads the team in batting with a .412 average and has scored four runs to go with one double.

Amanda Sheets has scored a team-high seven runs and is hitting .360. She has also knocked in four runs.

In the circle Utah State has a 4.43 ERA in 68.0 innings. The Aggies have struck out 52 against 21 walks.

April Brown leads the team in ERA with a 2.83 mark and has a 3-1 record. In 29.2 innings Brown has fanned 24 and walked just six.

Riverside (12-6) is hitting .311 as a team with seven home runs, five triples, and 23 doubles. The Highlanders have outscored opponents 97-79 on the year.

Madeline Richard is hitting .500 to lead the team and is 16 of 17 on stolen base attempts. She leads the team with 19 runs scored and has added two doubles and five RBI.

Natalie Sanchez leads the Highlanders with 16 RBI and has blasted two home runs to go with five doubles. Sanchez has scored nine runs.

The Highlanders have a 4.68 team ERA in 113.2 innings. They have struck out 78 and walked 83.

Tayler Misfeldt is 8-4 with a 4.43 ERA in a team-high 61.2 innings. She has appeared in 14 games and made 12 starts with six complete games and one shutout. Misfeldt has struck out 45 and walked 54.
