Surber’s Six Goals Leads Women's Water Polo Over Villanova

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women’s water polo team split its first two games of the Tina Finali Invitational on Saturday, dropping the first contest against No. 23 Cal Baptist, 9-2, and beating Villanova, 13-5.

Seniors Elizabeth Anderson and Elle Surber scored the only two goals for the Broncos against Cal Baptist. The Lancers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and kept up the pace, leading 4-1 at halftime. SCU was unable to beat the defense, and the game ended 9-2 in favor of Cal Baptist.

Surber led the Broncos in the victory over Villanova with six goals, including four in the first half.

Goals from Surber, Anderson, and Erin Sheridan gave Santa Clara a 5-0 lead at the end of the first. Surber scored twice in the second and SCU led 7-3 at halftime. The Broncos kept rolling in the second half, scoring two goals in the third and four goals in the fourth to come away with a 13-5 victory.
