STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific started fast and pulled away from Santa Clara women's water polo for a 16-7 victory on Saturday in a meeting of Golden Coast Conference teams.
Truly Dorland and Toula Falvey each scored four times to lead a balanced and efficient offensive attack for the Tigers (1-1, 1-0).
Abby Fleming, Malena Nguyen and Jamie Robinson each had one goal and one assist for the Broncos in their season opener.
Fleming's goal cut the deficit to 6-3 late in the opening quarter, but the Tigers scored the next six.
Dorland's final marker increased the Pacific advantage to 12-3 with 4:26 left in the opening half.
Viktoria Tamas and Ana Martinez do Amaral each scored twice for Pacific which was 5-for-7 with the extra attacker. The Tigers scored on 45 percent of their shots on goal.
Santa Clara drew 10 kickouts, but only converted two into goals.
NOTES
• Goalie Alexa Grau was joined in the Santa Clara starting lineup by Abby Fleming, Mia Battilega, Malena Nguyen, Elle Fredrickson, Kelly Frumkin and Gabi Sicat.
• Grau played the opening half and made five saves. Grace Kavanagh took over in the third quarter and turned away six Pacific shots. Liyara Senadheera played the final 8 minutes and had one save.
• Fleming, Jamie Robinson and Maddie Clough each drew two kickouts.
NEXT UP
The Broncos play San Jose State at home on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Unfortunately, spectators are not allowed in Sullivan Aquatic Center.
