STANFORD, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team concluded play on the first day of the U.S. Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Course Saturday afternoon.

The Broncos fired rounds of 299 and 300 as a team and sit in 12th place out of 17 teams entering their final round of the season Sunday morning.

Sandy Horacek led the Broncos with rounds of 76 and 69 to finish day one in a tie for 19th place at 3-over par. 2002 All-West Coast Conference performer Matt Klenz fired consecutive rounds of 74 and sits in a tie for 36th place at 6-over par.

Chris DeMartini also fired an opening round 74, but followed that up with a 78 to end day one in a tie for 62nd. Kevin Bric is in a tie for 72nd at 13-over, while Jonathan Edwards rounded out the Santa Clara scoring with a two round total of 14-over, 156.

The Broncos will conclude their 2001-2002 season with Sunday's final round. Santa Clara trails cross-town rival San Jose State by only two strokes and is ahead of WCC foe San Francisco by seven strokes, while San Diego and Portland trail the Broncos by 13.
