Men's Golf Assistant Coach Aaron Oberholser Advances Past First Stage of PGA Tour Qualifying.

Oct. 27, 2001

Santa Clara University's assistant golf coach Aaron Oberholser moved on to the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School after firing rounds of 72, 68, 66 and 66 to finish fifth at the first stage in San Juan Batista, Calif.

Oberholser finished the first stage with a 16-under par score of 272 at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club. His finishing rounds of 66 and 66 were the lowest combined third and fourth round scores of anyone competing in the greuling event.

Only the top 21 finishers from the 73 participants moved on to stage two. Oberholser will be watched closely by Broncos head coach John Kennaday.

"It is great what Aaron is doing," said Kennaday. "He is not only a tremenously gifted golfer, but he is also a good teach which really benefits our kids here at Santa Clara."
