SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's golf team begain its 2001-02 season on Monday as they played the first two rounds of the Countrywide Home Loans Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge in Simi Valley, Calif. The Broncos finished the day by shooting rounds of 10-over 298 in round one, and 8-over 296 in round two.

Freshman Kevin Bric began his collegiate career in fine fashion by shooting a 3-under par 69 during the morning round at the Woodranch Country Club. He concluded his first day of collegiate competition with a 2-over 74 in the afternoon round for a total of 1-under par 143.

Senior Sandy Horacek began his senior season where he left off at the 101st U.S. Amateur Open this past summer, playing consistently good golf. Horacek shot rounds of 73 and 71 to finish the day at even-par 144.

"Kevin and Sandy have been playing brilliantly," said head coach John Kennaday. "Those two have been playing very well coming into the season and they continued that today on a very difficult course."
