Horacek Assigned Tee Time for 101st U.S. Amateur Open

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University senior golfer Sandy Horacek has been assigned his tee times for the first two days of stroke play at the 101st United States Amateur Open being held August 20-26 in Atlanta, Ga.

Horacek will tee it up in round one of the stroke play portion of the tournament Monday at 9:24 a.m. on the 10th hole of the East Lake Golf Club. He will begin round two on Tuesday afternoon at 2:09 p.m. on the first hole of the Druid Hills Golf Club. Following two days of stroke play, the field of 312 golfers will be reduced to the lowest 64 scorers, who will advance to match play. All matches are 18 holes except the final match. The 36-hole championship final match is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 26.

The U.S. Amateur Championship is open to amateur golfers who have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 2.4. Sectional qualifying was conducted over 36 holes at 97 sites from July 25-August 7. Horacek qualified for his second consecutive appearance in the U.S. Amateur by being one of three qualifiers to advance from the sectional qualifier held on August 7th at the SCGA Members Club Course in Temecula, Calif.

The U.S. Amateur Open champion will receive an exemption into the 2002 U.S. Open and an invitation to play in the 2002 Masters Tournament, if he remains an amateur. He also receives a 10-year exemption into the U.S. Amateur field so long as he remains an amateur.

The U.S. Amateur will have 13 hours of live national coverage on ESPN and NBC during the last five days of the Championship. ESPN will air three hours per day from Wednesday through Friday, and NBC will carry two hours daily on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
