Men's Soccer Goalkeeper Garners Weekly Conference Honor

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's soccer team was rewarded for recording a shutout on the road against a quality opponent in Southern Methodist University last Friday.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dakota Havlick was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

The Broncos (4-2) were facing a Mustangs squad (2-5) that had been ranked as high as No. 12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll earlier this season. Havlick posted his second-straight shutout and third of the season in the 1-0 victory for SCU. The Murrieta, California, native made eight saves total, six of which came in the first half when the Broncos were under near constant pressure. SMU fired 11 shots in the first half and 17 for the game.

SCU has the best defense in the WCC, allowing just three goals in six games, one of which was from the penalty spot. Its 0.50 goals against average also ranks 14th in the nation. Havlick also boasts a 0.864 save percentage, tops in the conference and No. 16 in the country.

The Broncos, riding a three-game winning streak, face Tulsa Monday at 5 p.m. PT.
